Paula uses a slab roller to flatten clay for handbuilt pottery. The slabs are perfect vehicles to receive textures. Texturing tools are "borrowed" from other traditional places, often from the kitchen. In right photo above ,clock-wise from top left: comb; decorative wood molding; plaster texture tool; Romanian religious bread stamp; batik stamp from India; wire mesh; and onion bag. Many of Paula's hand built pieces use textures as a design element.
